1/7/98 ------ Thank you for downloading the eagerly awaited sequel to my first film Labor Day! This second major Stunt Island film, Arbor Day, was the end result of about a year of work (with long pauses in between). Whereas Labor Day focused on witty sampled sounds from different sources, Arbor Day is what I would call a Musical of sorts. I decided to delve into my movie soundtrack collection and bring out different clips to go with the action on screen. You will find over a dozen different tunes from Film Composers such as Williams, Conti, Horner, and Zimmer. All music in Arbor Day is digital, and one sequence was twelve 120k clips strung together! There's also a storyline here, complete with actors and sampled dialogue. My biggest challenge in this film was software constraints! The film just fits into two .FLM files, and I had to really squeeze the credits in at the end. Watch it in slow motion if you want to get all the credits in without being rushed. But, despite all the hardship and sacrifice, here it is. Thanks to Larry Faubert for creating his custom objects for me. I have no clue how to make anything other than a box, and his "custom people" helped make this film become a reality. Also, much appreciation to Skan, Brian, and Jonathan for doing the voices for the characters in the film. And of course, thanks to George Lucas. You have to thank the guy, he's done so much for the film industry as a whole, and is one of my primary cinematic influences when making SI films. -Josh -------------------------- Viewing Instructions -------------------------- This is my first SI Film that uses custom objects, so you can only watch this using the PLAYONE viewer and the associated .FLM and .ALL files. Trying to watch Arbor Day through Stunt Island with the .FLM file only will result in the program crashing and you won't hear the sounds. Don't do it. So then, what files are included in this .ZIP? ARBOR1.ALL - The .ALL file of Arbor Day Part 1 ARBOR1.FLM - The .FLM file ARBOR2.ALL - The .ALL file of Arbor Day Part 2 ARBOR2.FLM - The .FLM file DRIVER1.BIN - Data DRIVER2.BIN - Data DRIVER3.BIN - Data GAME.CFG - Some Configuration file INSTALL.CFG - Ditto INSTALL.EXE - The Executable Installation file - DON'T RUN THIS! PFONT.BIN - The Font file PLAYONE.EXE - The Movie Viewer - Use this to view my film SETUP.BAT - The Batch file to set up the viewer - RUN THIS! VDATA.BIN - Data Ok, is VERY simple to run this, Boris. Make directory on Hard Drive and Unzip all of these files into it! Then run SETUP and fill out your sound card info. Then run PLAYONE If you find yourself in the empty VAULT directory, merely press the drive letter that your new directory is in and there you have it. Finally, Run ARBOR1.FLM. Watch it. Enjoy it. Then run ARBOR2.FLM. Then quit to DOS and return to your normal existance. Known Bugs: ---------- NOTE: Don't try to run this in Win95! Please exit to DOS and make sure your sound card's drivers are loaded. Running this in Win95 will speed it up and break up the sound, distracting you from the Arbor Day Experience. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cast ---- Narrator - Josh Horowitz The Mayor - Josh Horowitz Phelps - Brian Jennings Mr. Vice Mayor - Skanthan Vivekaandamorthy Chairman Green - Jonathan Kirzner The Lumberjack - Michael Palin Musical Selections ------------------ "J.I.Hound Theme" from Ben Hur by Miklos Mozsa "KMFDM" from XTORT by KMFDM "Hymn to Red October" from The Hunt for Red October by Basil Poledouris "Mutiny" from Crimson Tide by Hans Zimmer "Arkansas Traveller" from Hillbilly Hare by Carl Stalling "Breaking the Sound Barrier" from The Right Stuff by Bill Conti "Fargo, North Dakota" from Fargo by Carter Burwell "Prologue" from JFK by John Williams "The Motorcade" from JFK by John Williams "Forced Entry" from Fargo by Carter Burwell "The Plan" from The Firm by David Grusin "Fighting 17th" from Backdraft by Hans Zimmer "Southampton" from Titanic by James Horner "Lumberjack Song" by Terry Jones, Michael Palin, and Fred Tomlinson performed by Michael Palin and the Mounty Chorus "Throne Room / End Title" from Star Wars by John Williams Other Credits ------------- Lumberjack and Mounty objects by Larry Faubert Special Thanks -------------- Skan, Brian, Jonathan, and Tony Larry Faubert Monty Python's Flying Circus The Van Nuys HS Class of 1995 The UCLA Football team (Go Bruins!)
